Tomorrow I begin shooting for GraciousMay and Snugar's Spring 2012 line. I am praying that Lord fills me full of inspiration and gives me the ability to successfully shoot my 6ths season. It is by His strength alone I will be able to accomplish it! The next 2 weeks will be BUSY and EXCITING and CRAZY! So, up goes a fresh coat of blue paint in our photo studio. With each season a different shade :)

And for a few more "favorite things"... I had started a tumblr account as an outlet to display my favorite things in order to keep this blog purely photography but.... not sure if I will get the hang of tumbling. Plus, old blogging habits are hard to break! ;)

Patagonia, Chile. God's creation is so beautiful and leaves me in awe. I found this photo and couldn't stop looking at it! I may never make it out of the states(many beautiful places right in the USA to visit) but I don't think there is any harm in day dreaming?! :)

Now, those are some spiffy tents and their location is breathtaking!

Nothing worse than a caffeinated squirrel! ;) Sorry, just couldn't help myself on this one!

Do Not Lose Heart

10:40pm, about the time of night things start quieting down at my house. I still hear a few brother bouncing around in their room and a little sister reading out loud to her "room-mate" but for the most part "quiet":)
So I sat down with my bible, searching out verses that say "don't lose heart" or in the KJV "faint not".... All day I have had 2 Cor 4:16 going through my mind. I am not sure how that verse found it's way into my brain but glad it did. Whenever a verse goes through my mind I find myself searching out/thinking over complimentary verses. One thing has led to another and I now have a bundle of verses that have filled me with excitement and hope. So, I thought I would share a few with you all! I hope they encourage you as much as they did me this evening :)

By Request Vanilla Cupcake Recipe + a Random Fact

Here is the recipe Emily! Really simple and delicious. I also posted a picture of the cupcakes I made in a mason jar at the bottom of the post as I remember you liked the idea of baking in a mason jar(from a long ago post you commented on :)!

A little fact about cooking oils... really random but thought I would share (:
My family does not use shortening/crisco, canola or vegetable oil for consumption but vegetable oil does works great for oiling bicycle chains and canola is a wonderful pesticide ;) . We either use olive oil, E.V. olive oil, or butter .
Why? Both shortening and vegetable oil contain soybean. Something many people don't know is soy products are actually hazardous to your health. It is the same with Canola oil which is derived from the rapeseed. The rapeseed was never meant for human consumption. In fact during WWII, rapeseed was the main source of the chemical warfare agent mustard gas. Also rapeseed has been linked to madcow disease and shown to cause emphysema, respiratory distress, anemia, blindness in animals—and humans, and more. Really interesting articles :)

OK HERE IS THE RECIPE!!

Vanilla Cupcakes with Buttercream Frosting

Yeilds 18-20 cupcakes or 9 4oz mason jars
Cake:

3/4 cup BUTTER softened
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
2 1/4 cup sifted flour
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 cup milk
5 stiffly beaten egg whites (beat until stiff peaks form)

Frosting:

3/4 cup butter softened
1/2 cup heavy cream (milk can be substituted)
1TBS vanilla
1/2tsp almond extract
5-6 cups powder sugar

Preheat oven to 375°F. Line 18 muffin Cups with liners. Or if your using mason jars butter and flour 9 mason jars.
Cream butter and sugar tull light. Add vanilla and mix well; set aside.
Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating after each addition. Gently fold in egg white. Divide between muffin cups. I find 1 mounded ice cream scoop per cup is the perfect amount. For the 4oz mason jars 2 ice cream scoops are perfect!
Bake for 10-15 minutes or until done and slightly golden. Cool thoroughly.
Icing instructions:
Cream together butter, cream, vanilla, and almond extract. Add powder sugar 1 cup at a time until icing reaches the right consistency.
Pipe onto cooled cupcakes and enjoy!

Ever had "just one of those days"? Well I sure did today (looks at the clock and realizes it is now a new day so it was actually yesterday :)! Not a BAD day, just one of those days when everything seems to go awry.

~~Today~~ Yesterday:

my cup of tea was cold by the time I remembered I didn't drink it... not a major problem. Iced tea is great!
In the process of making Homemade Reeces Peanutbutter cups I burnt 2 entire bags of chocolate chips all because I had my mind on something other than melting chocolate... obviously! :)
I failed to remember to take meat for dinner out of the deep freeze until it was practically dinner time.
My black-eyed peas were hard as rocks and chicken.... not cooked!
AND last BUT definitely not least.... my Adobe Lightroom crashed :( And I hadn't backed up my files in.... well, ever!

Yes, just one of those days. Thankfully I sit here at the ~~end of the day~~ beginning of a new day and laugh about it. By the grace of God and His strength alone, I am still alive and healthy and my family is safe. A few burnt chocolate chips(sorry Mom and Dad, I owe you 2 bags of Nestle Semi sweet Chips ;), hard black-eyed peas, and a cup of cold tea were just little trifles added to my wonderful day to keep it exciting and out of the ordinary ;)

Take A Hike | Texas Day 12 Part 2

Multiple Post in one day... wow! :) Just trying to catch up on my pictures as younger brothers and sisters are anxiously checking my blog multiple times for new pictures!

Today we hiked down to the Guadalupe river! Having to go down a steep incline then shimmy our way to the bottom of a 30 foot drop, my dad and brothers came up with a crafty harness to keep us safe :)

Hiking, dodging red ants, fishing(my brother that is), attempting to skip rocks, and getting soaked in a FREEZING COLD river..... FUN!

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse... or was there?

Christmas in a camper, not the norm but then again my family, thankfully, is not quite normal:) As I type this half a dozen kidlets and a few who have grown too large to call kidlets are enjoying a eggnog pancakes while singing "Go Tell it on the Mountain". So, although we are at an RV Resort this Christmas Eve we decided to keep our tradition of delivering Christmas cookies!This time instead of our normal friends and neighbors we delivered them to our fellow campers :)

Last night we all headed down to the community building to prepare our cookies...

Noise | Nikon Vs. Canon Part 3

Now 2 weeks with Nikon and I do enjoy it. It is lightweight yet sturdy and really has everything anyone could want in a DSLR!

I have been playing around with the ISO on Nikon and Canon! Thought it was about time for another Nikon vs. Canon post and since I am sitting here finishing off a lovely evening in a very crowded camper, right smack-dab in the middle of Texas I decided to post my results! :) Nikon spans of 100-6400iso makes low light pictures very possible but...... NOISY! The Canon 5D Mark II also has a lovely range of 100-6400 with WONDERFUL High ISO noise reduction! WHAT DO YOU THINK? Which looks better to you?

In the Land Where Cacti Grow Wild

Texas, it is somewhat of a "home away from home" for my family and it just so happens that I am in the large state where cacti grow wild as I type :) After much preparation, I hastily packed up my bags, jumped in the big white 15 passenger van with my crazy family, 25 suitcases, 15 blankets, 10 pillows, enough snacks to hold over an army, and random articles the children just couldn't leave behind and headed for Texas. Now I just need to find the perfect pair of cow~~boy~~girl boots and I will be set for a perfect vacation ;) !

Random Pictures | Nikon vs Canon Part 2

So, 5 days with the Nikon and I am starting to get the hang of it :) I skipped reading the 350 page instructional manual and looked up instructional videos online. They really came in handy!

To my eyes, the Canon 5D Mark II offers a sharper overall image throughout the sensitivity range and a better noise reduction. BUT Nikon offers a more realistic picture (or as I like to call it, "real to life") with it's outstanding white balance. I find it really hard to compare the two as both are wonderful cameras and both take completely different pictures.

What I don't like about Nikon so far:

1.) The placement of the ISO button. Yes, this may seem like a minor issue that isn't important. But it is :) Canon and most all nikons have the ISO button next to the shutter release, making quick changes to the ISO a very smooth and fast process. Nikon D7000's ISO button is in the lower left hand corner. SO.... you will have to take you left hand off the lens and remove your eye from the view finder in order to change the ISO. Doing so means possible shots that will be missed as you try to adjust your ISO.

2.) The Nikon will occasionally freeze-up on me. I have had this happen a few times and one other time the camera blinked error until I removed and re-inserted the battery. Minor issue but never experienced this with the Canon.

What I like about Nikon:

1.) A really nice feature to Nikon D7000 is it's 6 frames per second! That is 2 more frames per second than Canon 5D!

2.) magnesium-alloy top and rear covers makes the camera feel very durable and stable! The comparable Canon to a Nikon D7000 is Canon 60D which is covered in a hard plastic.

3.) As stated already, I REALLY love nikon's white balance. My canon is almost always on a custom white balance depending on my surroundings.

Today I primarily carried the Nikon around to get used to shooting with it, using it whenever I had the opportunity. Bellow are random pictures from my day taken with the Nikon and the picture settings listed bellow!

So I bought a Nikon | Nikon vs Canon Part 1

After a year of curiosity, wondering what the difference was between a Nikon and Canon, I finally decided to experiment! I quickly Sold my Canon 50D back-up camera, batter grip, a plethora of batteries, and a Canon 50mm 1.4 Lens on ebay and ended up with just the right amount to buy my Nikon D7000 and Nikkor 50mm 1.4D lens.... Yes, I am crazy :) I may post a video or two of the pros and cons of Nikon in the future?!?? I have already found a couple things I REALLY don't like and a few I do really like. For now I am still learning how to use the Nikon as it is nothing like a Canon which I have grown accustom to using the last 3 years.

NOTE: If you are wanting to upgrade your camera and are thinking about purchasing a Canon 50D I wouldn't recommend it. Canon 50D's color accuracy/ white balance is extremely bad and a good amount of editing or custom white balances is required to correct it. So go for the Canon 40D or save a little extra and purchase the 5D. Really worth it!

all images are taken on identical settings and edited the exactly the same! This far I do see a significant difference in picture quality but will reserve my judgement as I am still getting used to using the Nikon.

The images taken with my Canon seems sharper and higher quality whereas there is a beautiful white balance in the images with taken Nikon.

We have made it to yet another Friday and I AM THANKFUL! It is nothing short of a miraculous blessing from the Lord that we get out of bed each morning or make it through a day! Each day your heart beats approximately 100,800 times, pumping blood to your estimated 60,000 miles of blood vessels. With each step that you take 200 muscles are used, and as I like to remind everyone it takes 17 muscles to smile and 43 to frown. So -unless you are trying to give your face a workout- SMILE!

Pies, 50 pounds of stuffing(the stuffing maker went a little overboard this year!), turkey, rolls... yes, my house is smelling quite delightful at the moment! I don't know about you but I have so much to be thankful for... not just tomorrow but every second of every day! I am so abundantly blessed and so humbled by God's goodness!

The leaves are at the peak of their splendor and joyfully dance to the ground, days shorten and nights grow bitterly cold, golden rows of corn have been harvested, and now the ground lays bare with only little remnants of what grew the summer before. These all are signs of Fall making it's exit in Missouri and seem to so exquisitely proclaim the beauty of God's creation! As much as I will miss Fall (obviously, my favorite season) and all the rich color it holds, I am thankful for the Winter months coming as they promise to bring Spring and new life! I have been reminded of 2 Corinthians 5:17 when considering the end fall. I don't know why this verse has been etched into my thoughts so strongly as of late but I am so grateful for the truth and beauty it holds:

Early this morning, we were blessed with the safe arrival of baby 14! We were all extremely surprised to find a baby girl... making an even 7 boys and 7 girls :) God is exceedingly gracious and merciful, and His AWEsome works have been abundantly demonstrated to my family today!
